Our program is designed for children ages 3 and 4, with a goal to instill a love of learning and prepare our students for kindergarten. It is important to us that the children know that learning is fun! When the children graduate from our program, we want them to be happy, confident and proud of themselves, so that they will thrive in kindergarten.
Our program follows the Lewiston Porter School District calendar, with the exception of a few days. Families will be provided with a school calendar before the school year begins . We offer an annual summer playdate, which is an opportunity for the children to come in to the school, meet new friends, their teachers and get to find a new favorite toy. We find that this helps get rid of most, it not all, of the "first day jitters". The children have all been very excited to come back for their first day of fun in the fall.
We have three teachers employed by the Messiah Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Rose Aloian is beginning her fifth year as our head teacher. Mrs. Brandi Krassopolous is on her fourth year with us and Mrs. Heidi Lauger is beginning her second year. Each one of these teachers share a passion for developing our young students and providing a safe and loving environment. They all want the first educational setting to set a positive precedence for the children.
Children who attend the AM (9:15a.m. - 11:30a.m.) program will be provided with a daily snack and drink. We also provide a majority of the school and craft supplies.
The AM class time is the best fit for our younger 3 year old friends. The morning students will have access to our interactive smart board, daily calendar and phonics program, as well as the letter of the week activities and name writing. We focus a lot on socialization, building stamina and beginning age appropriate independence, giving our youngest friends confidence and the " I did it" feeling!
Children who attend for full day (9:15a.m. - 2:30p.m.) will be provided with an afternoon snack and drink. They shall be responsible for bringing their own lunch each day. After lunch we have a short relaxation period, followed by play time and more academics in the afternoon.
This schedule is excellent preparation for a full day of kindergarten. If the weather allows us to, we will go outside during the afternoon period. We may do work with chalk, play in our play yard or go for a walk around the church.
It was over 50 year.s ago that Joan DeVantier proposed a Nursery/PreK at Messiah. The first year started September 1967. Joan was the Director/Teacher and Sue Ann Ross was her Aide. After a few years, Joan left for the birth of her son.
Sue Ann and Joan Waterstrat were the teachers until 1977.
A proposal to re-OPEN the Pre-K at Messiah was presented to the Congregation and the Council for September 2001. The approval was unanimous . The acceptance, support, and work effort was inspiring. Lisa Landers was the Assistant Teacher for 10 years.
The preschool program co-existed in the education wing with Sunday School, Girl Scouts, Day Care, and Latch Key (Carla) . The Ed Wing became alive!
In 2001 the Pre-K Advisory Board was established and began serving. The members were: Judy Condino, Chairperson, Joan DeVantier, Joan Waterstrat, and Sue Ann Ross. They remain active, interested and supportive.
The baton was passed to Kim Sembert, Director/Teacher and Rose Aloian in May 2015. After one year Rose became Director/Teacher with, now, 2 assistant teachers. It is exciting to see this program flourish and blossom!
